Homemade Taco Seasoning is an easy mix to make and better for you.

Not just for tacos. You can use taco seasoning to spice up meatloaf, burgers, tomato sauce, casseroles, and dips. Use as little or as much as you want.

Taco Seasoning Mix

3/4 cup dried minced onion
1/4 cup salt
1/4 cup chili powder
1 Tbsp. dried oregano
2 Tbsp. each cornstarch
1 Tbsp. crushed dried red pepper
1 Tbsp. dried minced garlic
1 Tbsp. ground cumin

Combine all ingredients in a small bowl until evenly distributed. Spoon 1/2 cup mixture onto a 6-inch square of aluminum foil and fold to make airtight. Label with date and contents. Store in a cool, dry place. Use within 6 months. Makes 12 packets

Authentic Taco Seasoning Mix

1 tablespoon chili powder
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin
1 teaspoon sea salt
1 teaspoon black pepper

Combine all ingredients in a small bowl until evenly distributed. Spoon  mixture onto a 6-inch square of aluminum foil and fold to make airtight. Label with date and contents. Store in a cool, dry place. Use within 6 months.

Easy Taco Seasoning Mix
This replaces one of the store-bought packets. It is super-speedy to use with only four ingredients. No preservatives, no sugar, no msg, no fuss!

1 1/2 teaspoonspaprika
1 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon oregano
1/2 teaspoon salt or garlic salt

Combine all ingredients in a small bowl until evenly distributed. Spoon  mixture onto a 6-inch square of aluminum foil and fold to make airtight. Label with date and contents. Store in a cool, dry place. Use within 6 months.

Taco Snack Mix
An easy snack mix recipe

4 cups assorted square wheat, rice or corn cereals
4 cups small pretzel sticks
4 cups tortilla chips
1 foil package of homemade taco seasoning mix
1/4 cup melted butter

Combine all ingredients except margarine in a large bowl, tossing to coat well with seasoning. Drizzle with melted butter and toss to coat well. Store in an airtight container. Makes about 12 cups.

Southwestern Gift Basket
Use a cowboy hat lined with bandana and fill it with an assortment of salsa and tortilla chips, homemade spices such as chili seasoning, taco seasoning, bag of Pistachios and a Southwestern Cookbook, apron, pot holders or mitts.  You could also put in a bottle of wine.
