You can cut the time it takes to make spaghetti seasoning by keeping this homemade mix on hand. And it's better for you than sodium and preservative laden store bought brands.Be daring with spices. The amounts and spices listed here are only recommendations.
Spaghetti Seasoning Mix
2 cups dry minced onion 3 tablespoons oregano 2 tablespoons dried green pepper flakes 4 teaspoons dried basil 1 tablespoons dry minced garlic 4 teaspoons salt 4 tablespoons dry parsley 2 teaspoons each rosemary, thyme and marjoram OR 1 heaping tablespoon Italian seasoning mixCombine all ingredients in a small bowl until evenly distributed. Spoon 3/4 cup mixture onto a 6-inch square of aluminum foil and fold to make airtight. Label with date and contents. Store in a cool, dry place. Use within 6 months Add 3/4 cup dry mix to 1 pound ground beef, three 24-oz. cans of crushed tomatoes, 1 cup fresh or canned mushrooms, one cup grated zucchini &/or 1 cup grated carrots celery & onions to taste. Allow to simmer in crock pot all day or in stock pot on stove an hour or more until flavors blend & vegetables are soft. This is also good cooked meatless as a marinara sauce. Freezes well.
