A word of Caution: While skin reactions and other side effects are not common with these natural bath and body recipes, some can occur because of allergies. Effects can include rashes, nausea, sneezing, skin irritation and breathing difficulties. If you experience any of these, stop using the product.  When making your own bath and body products:

  1. Do not exceed the recommended amount of ingredients
  2. Do not swallow or even taste essential oils. Keep your bath and body recipes in bottles and jars sealed and out of reach of children.
  3. Do not take any essential oils internally without consultation from a qualified aromatherapy practitioner.
  4. Do not apply undiluted essential oils, absolutes, CO2s or other concentrated essences onto the skin.
  5. If you are pregnant, epileptic, have liver damage, have cancer, or have any other medical problem, use oils only under the proper guidance of a qualified aromatherapy practitioner.
  6. Use extreme caution when using oils with children and give children only the gentlest oils at extremely low doses. It is safest to consult a qualified aromatherapy practitioner before using oils with children.

Helpful Hints for Making Bath and Body Recipes

You can use an electric mixer to blend ingredients, but be sure to clean the beaters thoroughly before using them for cooking.

Use bottles that hold exact amounts of a product in order to minimize contact with air. When you have used a good portion of the product, transfer the remainder to a smaller bottle.

Use amber-colored bottles to protect your bath and body recipes against light. Store in a cool, dark place; for the long term the refrigerator is best.

When making products as gifts, be sure to include a list of ingredients on the on the label. If possible, check beforehand whether the recipients of your gifts are allergic to any of the ingredients you may be using.
